PLACES - Geography and Planning Laboratory

The PLACES Laboratory conducts research concerning geography, planning and urban studies, and more broadly the social sciences. It aims to respond to the challenges posed by the current dynamics that affect the contemporary worlds, and particularly the urban world: public policies and territories in transition, mobility, heritagisation, and environmental, participation and digitisation issues.

The laboratory’s research strategy is divided into four areas:
  • Cultural and heritage dynamics of territories
  • Physical and tangible environment; risks
  • Housing, urban lifestyles and social dynamics
  • Transport, mobility and territories
These areas are explored through four main cross-disciplinary approaches:
  • Circulation and mobility
  • Power, interplay between stakeholders, governance
  • Critical approach to territorial policies
The laboratory relies on numerous collaborations with other laboratories and universities around the world, and with various public, private and associative institutional partners to carry out its activities. Several Master’s courses are backed by the laboratory.
